It is a pale Pilsner lager beer with a low alcohol content (4.6°). “Xibeca” was devised as a substitute for red table wine for meals in the late 1960s, when the price of table wine rose significantly.1 It was very popular among the lower-middle class in Catalonia during the 1970s.
